Hi there and welcome to the latest episode of The Curious Coach Podcast.
This week’s mini challenge is all about focus. Maybe you are already lucky enough, to be able to focus on one thing at a time. Perhaps it’s a clear goal, outcome or activity that you want to undertake.
However, if you’re anything like me, then you might have lots of things bubbling around that you want to do. And, I know that I’m my own worst enemy sometimes, whilst I’m usually pretty good at coming up with ideas, I’m not so good at focusing on just one at a time. And the ideas could be about anything – about hobbies, my coaching practice, or other things that I’d like to do. And don’t get me wrong, ideas are really useful!
However, focus is also important. When I don’t have focus, I’ll try and work on several ideas at once. And then get frustrated when none of them seem to go anywhere. Or, I’ll sit there feeling slightly overwhelmed and left wondering where to start!
So that’s that my challenge – not only for myself this week, but also for you. Reflect on all the things that you want to do, or achieve or the ideas that you’re having. And resist the temptation to try and do several of them at once. Instead, take a moment to step back, take a breath, and reflect on which ONE, will you focus on for the coming week, or maybe longer. And if you did simply focus on all your free energy on that one idea, how might that create momentum for you and in what you’re trying to achieve.
In order to narrow it down to the one thing, you’re going to have to prioritise. And how you prioritise is entirely up to you and what you’re looking for in this moment. You might be prioritising having some down time and doing something fun; or it might be focusing on the one thing that could help you really start to grow your business; or focusing on a learning that new skill that will help you get a different role, or come closer to promotion. The criteria you use, will be personal to you. And in choosing to focus, you’re making a deliberate choice to do what’s right for you in this moment.
So that’s it for this week. Good luck focusing and I look forward to hearing how you got on! Please feel free to drop me an email or leave a comment on LinkedIn. And don’t forget, until next time – stay curious!
