Hi there, and welcome to this week’s mini episode of The Curious Coach Podcast.
This week, let me start with a question. What’s the difference between dreaming and visioning? They both sound very similar… They both sound, possibly, forward focused:
“I’m dreaming of a future” or “I’m visioning the future”
It seems quite subtle the difference. However, when you think about whether you’re going to be taking action as a result then I think the difference becomes a little bit clearer.
Looking at the dictionary, the definition of visioning is “The development of a plan, goal of vision of the future”. Whereas dreaming is fantasifull; it may or may not happen. It’s just a dream. There’s no movement or action.
So, that got me also thinking sbout what happens when we think about the past and whether we don’t take action or we do take action. So that gave me another two dimensions of resisting and reflecting. And I think I’ve got more to say about that, but that’s maybe for an article I’ll post later in the week!
In the meantime, thinking about visioning or dreaming, which are you doing? Are you dreaming about your future? Or are you visioning it? Developing a plan, thinking about the actions you could take to make that future vision a real, to make it come true?
And if you’re dreaming, how do you move to action, to a state of visioning? I don’t have answers for you at the minute because this is something that is unique and personal to each of us: how we take action, how we want to vision that future, and maybe, we’re not ready to do it yet, maybe we’re quite happy to be dreaming…
My challenge for you this week is to reflect on what does those two terms mean for you
‘dreaming’ and ‘visioning’, and to be curious about which one you are doing, and which one do you want to be doing?
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and what came up for you, so please don’t hesitate to send me an email to email@example.com and that’s Stephen with a ‘ph’! Or, drop me a comment beneath this video if you’re watching on LinkedIn.
And as always, until next time, don’t forget….Stay curious!!!
