050: Mini: Accountability
This week’s episode is all about accountability. How do you go about holding yourself accountable for all the things you want to start or stop doing in your life?
Hello and welcome to this weekly mini-episode of the Curious Coach podcast. This week’s episode is all about accountability. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably have plenty of ideas and thoughts about stuff you’d like to do, new habits you’d like to create or even things you’d like to change or stop doing.
So whilst it can be sometimes challenging to come up with those things, it can be equally challenging to actually start or stop doing them once you’ve figure out what they are! How do you go about keeping yourself accountable?
And that’s the question I’d like to reflect on this week. What strategies could you come up with to help keep yourself accountable? To be successful?
For example, I periodically journal. But periodically can be anywhere from every few days to every few weeks or on occasions even longer. I always find benefit from journaling so I’d love to form the habit of doing it more regularly. I’ve now started doing a couple of simple strategies to help myself develop this habit and hold myself accountable for journaling on a more regular basis. Firstly, I’ve started making sure I have my journal close by or leave it in a place that I’ll trip over at some point during the day. Secondly, I’ve started using an app to start tracking how often I do something and to prompt me with periodic reminders when I haven’t. With this app you can set up a list of things that you want to track and how often you want to do it –i.e., is it something that’s daily or weekly - Now I can view how often I’ve journaled and be curious about what’s getting in the way as well as getting reminders popping up every now and then to help make sure I actually do it.
I’m sure there’s other things I could do, such as putting post-it notes around the house, but I don’t really believe that would work for me.
