Mini: What's holding you back?
This week I came to the realisation that I’m living a self-fulfilling prophecy: If I let fear hold me back from realising my dreams and aspirations, then they’ll never come true. So this week’s question is for you to reflect on what’s holding you back from achieving your own dreams?

Hello and welcome to this weekly mini-episode of the Curious Coach podcast. In this week’s episode, I want to invite you to take a moment to reflect on your dreams and aspirations.
Some people might have very clear dreams; others might be too busy rushing around to allow themselves time to figure things out.
And for some, they might have clear dreams but that’s all they’ll ever be… dreams. And this is something I’m be reflecting on for some time now.
For me, it’s important to have dreams; to have aspirations for how I want my future to be. However, unless we are prepared to take action, then our dreams are unlikely to come true.
So, if you have dreams, and you’re not taking action – what’s getting in your way? And maybe that’s an interesting question to reflect on.
For me, I came to the realisation this week that I’m letting fear get in my way. The fear that I may not be good enough to achieve what I want to achieve. And for me, this is an irrational fear, because there’s no evidence there to support that view. But yet, it’s there. It causes me to procrastinate, to put off the actions that I need to take to move me forward. It can even stop me sharing by dreams or aspirations with others, because I’m fearful of what they might say.
And whilst I was reflecting on that thought. I came up with something obvious but also profound: “I have dreams and aspirations but I’m holding myself back with a fear that they won’t happen. If I do nothing, this will be my self-fulfilling prophecy.”
If I let fear get in my way, then I’ll never achieve those dreams. It’s now down to a choice. If I do nothing, then my dreams won’t come true and I’ll almost certainly have regrets later on. Or, I can choose to start taking small actions now that will step me closer to those dreams being realised. I might have a few stumbles along the way; It might be challenging; I might feel exposed and vulnerable; But I’ll also have the love and support of those around me, to lift me up and help me carry on. And with each step, I’ll be moving to a different place; a place where I’ll be learning and growing. And now that I’ve come to this realisation, it feels easier to start to create specific actions, to figure out those first steps, and to start moving rather than being paralysed by that irrational fear.
