This week’s reflective question is about your inner child! When was the last time you let it out to play? Just when did life get so serious?

Hello and welcome to this weekly mini-episode of the Curious Coach podcast. This week’s reflective question is about your inner child and when was the last time you let you let it out to play?
As we grow older and find ourselves taking on more responsibility, either in work, or at home, or maybe both, we might slowly lose touch with things we used to do as a child. Things like having a moment of spontaneous fun, playing a harmless prank on someone, perhaps playing with Lego or letting your imagination run wild and playing make believe.
When did it all get so serious? When did life get so serious?
And why, as adults, do we suppress our inner child? Why can’t we incorporate that innocent, inquisitive, curious child into our adult lives? Just think how great that would be!
As a child, I spent hours playing with Lego. And I don’t mean any of those fancy Lego kits you get today that you can lovingly craft into impressive replicas by carefully following instructions. I mean, a bit bucket of random Lego pieces that you created you own creations from by letting your imagination run wild. I recently played with Lego for the first time in years and I was immediately transported back to my childhood and the memories of creating all sorts of weird and wonderful inventions.
So that’s my challenge for you this week, think back to things you used to do as a child, and give yourself permission to go and play. Find some pens and paper and go scribble! Colour something in. Make a hopscotch grid on the pavement or go and skip. Whatever! Just give yourself permission to go and have some fun.
Switch off from being an adult for half and hour; ditch the phone; turn off the TV! In fact, that sparks another memory of a TV program aptly titled: “why don’t you just switch off your television set and go out and do something less boring instead!”
I bet that if you do reconnect with your inner child, you’ll have a laugh, you’ll ignite a spark of creative, stir some memories from your own childhood and probably feel a lot more relaxed and destressed. Go on, you know you want give. Give yourself permission to at least give it a try.
Anyway, that’s it for this week. I hope you have some fun and I’d love to hear how you got on.
