Metaphors are something that we use, probably unconsciously, all the time. They’re an essential part of us and can give insights into our inner workings. Take a simple question: how are you feeling? Do you respond metaphorically or with a descriptive feeling. The challenge this week is become conscious of your own metaphors and start to explore them. Have a bit of fun!

Hi there and welcome to this week’s mini episode of The Curious Coach Podcast. This week, I’ve been exploring metaphors and that give me an idea for this weeks challenge. When it comes to answering the following question, be curious about how you or maybe others would respond to it!
How are you feeling?
There is a couple of different ways you could choose to answer question. One way is to actually give the description of how you are feeling; the sensation that you’re experiencing at that point in time: I’m feeling happy. I’m feeling sad. I’m feeling anxious. Whatever word that fits the description.
However, another more interesting way, is with a metaphor: I’m feeling trapped. I’m feeling stuck. I feel that I’m drowning. I feel free. Who knows!
And I love it when metaphors come up coaching because they are such a great way to explore what’s going on for a client and they can also be great fun and they can create huge awareness.
So that’s my challenge for you this week. It’s to notice your own metaphors and start to be curious about them. If you’re feeling stuck, where are you stuck? What are you stuck in? What do you notice around you? Where were you coming from before you got stuck? When are you on you way to? What’s keeping you stuck?
Asking yourself some very simple questions about the metaphor can be hugely insightful. So that’s my challenge for you this week, notice your own metaphors explore them and have a bit of fun!
As usual I’d love to hear how you got on and what you noticed so please don’t hesitate to leave me a comment below this video or drop me an email to stephen@StephenClements.ie. As always full details can be found on my website at https://stephenclements.ie/podcast
